Ellen Yankellow, Top Female Business Owner, Community Activist and Philanthropist, To Be Inducted Into Chimes Hall Of Fame October 3, 2008 LINTHICUM, Md.—For Correct Rx Pharmacy Services President and CEO Ellen H. Yankellow, Pharm.D., there are few things more important than her dedication to the community. While juggling the demands of running Correct Rx—one of Baltimore's largest female-owned businesses and a national leader in institutional pharmacy services—Yankellow has never overlooked her passion for community activism and philanthropy. This unflagging commitment is why Chimes of Baltimore will honor Yankellow Nov. 1 by inducting her into their Hall of Fame.
“I feel so honored that Chimes has chosen me for its Hall of Fame and to appear among such a distinguished group of community activists,” said Yankellow. “For as long as I can remember, I've had a strong connection with the community—an instinctive need to give back and serve the community. It's an extraordinary feeling to know that I've touched the lives of so many, that my small steps have left such a meaningful footprint.”
Yankellow has stood at the helm of Correct Rx, a full service institutional pharmacy, since she launched the business in 2003. Since then, she's grown the Linthicum-based company into one of the leading institutional pharmacies nationwide. Correct Rx's model is based on pharmacy directed patient care, superior service and advanced technology. This, combined with a culture of caring and accuracy, has proven to be a formula for success.
Yankellow is a steadfast supporter of her community, both with hard work and financial support. In addition to her commitment to Chimes and numerous professional organizations, Yankellow serves on the boards of the Girl Scouts of Central Maryland, the Baltimore City Foundation Inc., United Way of Central Maryland Women's Leadership Council, The Catholic High School, the AAA Mid-Atlantic and the AAA Regional. In 2008, she was the Baltimore Heart Gala special appeal chair for the American Heart Association, and she co-chaired the Alzheimer's Association Memory Ball in 2007 and 2008.
Yankellow has won several awards for her service and business achievements. In 2007, she won the Maryland Chamber of Commerce Philanthropy Award and ranked among Maryland's Top 100 Women for The Daily Record. In 2006, Yankellow won the Greater Baltimore Committee “Bridging the Gap” Achievement Award, the 25 Outstanding Women Bravo! Entrepreneur Award for SmartWoman Magazine, The League for People with Disabilities Employer of the Year, the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year Award for health care services, and the Maryland Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the Year Award.
Yankellow will enter the Chimes Hall of Fame on Saturday, Nov. 1, at an all-star stage event, featuring Broadway legend Bernadette Peters, at The Meyerhoff Symphony Hall in Baltimore. She joins other notable Baltimore leaders in the Hall of Fame, including last year's inductee Sen. Francis X. Kelly and The Kelly Family, Richard E. Hug, Lois and Alan Elkin, and Steve and Mindi Geppi. The annual event benefits Chimes; proceeds will support services for people with disabilities in the area. General admission tickets can be purchased from the Meyerhoff Ticket Office, 410-783-8000, or at all Ticketmaster locations.
“Chimes has a tradition of honoring individuals who make outstanding contributions to our community,” Chimes CEO Terry Perl said. “Ellen Yankellow is one of those extraordinary people. She is a trailblazer both in entrepreneurship and community leadership. Ellen's imprint on Chimes is already large and bold, deserving this honor. Chimes board, the individuals Chimes serves and their loved ones are honored that Ellen Yankellow is joining Chimes Hall of Fame.”
