ALZHEIMER'S ASSOCIATION TO HOLD MEMORY BALL 2008 GALA

TIMONIUM, Md.–Tango, Waltz, Mambo and Cha Cha fans get ready. The Alzheimer's Association will hold its “Dancing Stars”-themed Memory Ball 2008 gala,. on Saturday, Apr. 5, from 7 p.m. to midnight, at the Baltimore Marriott Waterfront Hotel (700 Aliceanna St.).

Co-chairing the black-tie event are Hannah Keys Rodewald, co-owner of The Pleasure of Your Company, and Dr. Ellen H. Yankellow, CEO of Correct Rx Pharmacy Services, Inc., which is the event's presenting sponsor.

Steve Rouse, host of WMAR-TV's Maryland Living, will emcee a dance competition among: Olympic Ice Skating Gold Medalist Dorothy Hamill with her skating choreographer, Tim Murphy; Diane Lyn, co-host of 101.9 Lite FM's Baltimore's Morning Show; Lynne Brick, President/Owner Brick Bodies Fitness Services, Inc.; Dr. Majid Fotuhi, M.D., Ph. D., Life Bridge Health, Brain & Spine Institute; Bita Fotuhi, Lockheed Martin; Heather Keller, nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital; Peter Rabins, M.D., Johns Hopkins University; Karen Rabins; Samuel Ross, M.D. , CEO Bon Secours Heath System: Carolyn Ross; Molly Shattuck, and Brandy Washington, director of Account Services, Notemarks, LLC. Brandy is the daughter of Meadow Lark and Joe Washington (former Baltimore Colt and Washington Redskin), whose swing dance to “In the Mood” at Memory Ball 2007 earned them a trophy.

Chosen for their leadership in the community and their support of the Alzheimer's Association, the dancers will take lessons prior to the event, courtesy of Towson Dance Studio, Helmut Licht and Charm City Swing. At Memory Ball 2008, the dancers will perform a Latin or ballroom number of their choice.

The dancers will vie to win the Judge's Choice Trophy for best technical skill and the You're Our Star Trophy for the most money raised. They can earn votes from friends, family and associates online at www.alz.org/maryland prior to the event and by the audience attending the Ball. Each vote costs one dollar. Votes for dancers at Memory Ball 2007 raised $88,000. Overall, the event raised over $200,000 and drew 400 guests.

Along with the showcase of local ballroom talent, Memory Ball 2008 will feature a cocktail reception, full-course dinner and live music by Gazze, who will inspire everyone to get out on the dance floor.

Additionally, WJZ-TV Anchor Denise Koch will present the annual Helen S. Schulze Award to Patricia J. Mitchell, vice president of global sales and operations for IBM Global Services. Memory Ball Corporate sponsor Pizza Hut of Maryland, Inc. will present a $5,000 gift in Mitchell's name to the Alzheimer's Association to support research efforts.

A Memory Ball committee leader for the past four years, Mitchell has contributed significantly to building the event's financial success. According to Cass Naugle, executive director of the Alzheimer's Association Greater Maryland Chapter, “PJ Mitchell's efforts have built a much greater awareness of the work of the Association.”

“Most importantly, her involvement has been instrumental in helping the Association to building the capacity to provide caring services for the growing numbers of families impacted by Alzheimer's disease,” Naugle added.

Tickets are $300 per person or $3,000 for a table of 10. Corporate sponsorship packages are also available. Proceeds will benefit the Alzheimer's Association's many programs and services, as well as raise awareness of Alzheimer's disease and related disorders, which now affect more than 85,000 people in Maryland.
